For those in L.A. looking for something new to do on a weekend -
MOCA is currently running their Night Vision event every Saturday night for the summer. It’s free with $8 admission to the museum, and they have music, screenings, a bar, and cool art workshops like making a button pin with your own design from cut-up paper currency. Fake, of course!
I really enjoyed their current exhibition, Poetics of the Handmade. The individually carved lipsticks - all 2,200 of them - by Chilean artist Livia Marin are truly a must-see in person:

I have yet to visit this Studio City lingerie boutique - they were one of my first must-visit finds on Your LA - but I found out they have an online shop AND a blog, which they were nice enough to link me on. What a coincidence!
They currently have lots of pretty underthings on sale on their site. I like these newspaper print pieces from John Galliano:

If you’re in L.A. this weekend, the Brewery in downtown will be having their twice annual ArtWalk. Artist studios will be open to the public for us to check out their work, like these vintage discoveries from thefoundphoto:

Excuse the crappy photos, but these were shot last night at Cosa Nostra’s fashion show for Eternal Embrace, the Autumn/Winter 2007 Collection. For whatever reason I found myself at the very end of the first runway, right next to the press. It pays to not be VIP, I guess. (Which was probably a mere 25% of us regular folk.)
I love that last season’s Project Runway winner, Jeffrey Sebelia, is a fellow Angeleno, and I love his clothes even more!!! Lots of gorgeous, gorgeous dresses, and also plenty of everyday wear in black and gray and perfect for the Eastside.

Better photos from LA Weekly. I swear they look 100 times better in person.

I get so excited when I hear about fellow artists who are native Angelenos - or anyone native to L.A. for that matter. (Such a rare breed!) I love the combination of styles and influences - vintage Emilio Pucci and Art Nouveau are some - that adorn the women in Panni Malek’s paintings. Her solo exhibition, called “Dirty Pretty Things”, opens tonight in L.A., as part of the Rising Artist Series. (via Nylon Newsletter)

The Pink Project has put together a charity photobook with the help of artists, musicians, survivors, celebrities, and other advocates to support the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and the Los Angeles Breast Cancer Alliance (LABCA). I don’t know much else about it, but it’s definitely a cause that is close to my heart. You can purchase the book online or at the book release party this Saturday if you are in the L.A. area.

OK, I love these. Good Home Company wins the award for most charming-looking household cleaning products. This is their Paris Rain scent - a Parisian flower garden after a warm summer rain. And I love that their products, which include dish soap, laundry detergent, sheet spray, and a surface cleaner, are biodegradable and cruelty-free. The laundry detergent’s glass bottle also reminds me of lemonade from Trader Joe’s.
For us Angelenos, they have a store in Culver City at the Helms District in the H.D. Buttercup Building.

Found this store Chrome Bones at the Beverly Center the other day. They make the most stylish dog collars and leashes. I especially love the Grommet series. I love hardware and metal details, and the grommet eyelets and faux snakeskin toughen up the pastel colors and make it so much more interesting. We bought the bowl, but in green, for our big guy. It’s quite heavy, which is good, since he likes to tip over his food bowl if he’s not ready to eat. The green also matches perfectly with the rest of our office.
I’ve seen their Ostrich Hearts collars in a few stores before, and I think this will be the first one I’ll buy for the new puppy. I’m really fancying the light blue one with pink hearts. The plaid one is also cute.

I know what you’re thinking - “She just likes this because it has cute packaging.” That’s so not true! The Sofia Rose happens to be my favorite wine. I order this every time I’m at 626 Reserve (fabulous wine bar in downtown L.A., by the way.) But yes, the packaging is adorable. And yes, the wine is named after Sofia Coppola, director of Marie Antoinette and daughter of Francis, who owns the Neibaum-Coppola Winery.

Unfortunately 626 is the only place I know that sells the wine. The one time I bought a whole bottle was when I was on vacation in Seattle, from DeLaurenti. The bottle is gorgeous! I couldn’t find room for it in my luggage though.
Still have yet to try the Sofia Blanc de Blancs, which also comes in a mini canned form and four in a pack. I am seriously in love with that box…
